Interview with Snow

Updated: Sep 14, 2021

Welcome to CBC Spotlight, our monthly blog series where we interview members of the Youtaite community! Sign up for your chance to be interviewed. Today, I’m interviewing Snow, who has autism, ADHD, and anxiety.

Tell us about yourself!

Hello! I am Snow, or snowysnowwish. I am a singer, streamer, voice actor, person that loves embarrassing themselves online etc. I’m a member of team Glitch.Co which is a stream team that wants to create a safe and loving space for people with an invisible illness or disability. Society in general can be pretty mean to people that are different from others - but since you can not actively see that from the outside, society loves being extra mean and will tell us that there is nothing wrong. Which obviously, is far from true.

Being online means a lot to me. I dropped out of high school when I turned 18, and my hobbies at home truthfully saved me. Many people will often say that the internet doesn’t do you any good, and whilst that is true, so many great things were brought to me by being in all these communities. One of them being a partner and multiple incredible best friends.

For this interview, I want to inspire people, and make them see the other side of things. So, I hope you will enjoy my story and may this help you out a bit!

How'd you first become involved with the Youtaite community?

Well, I started off as a Kpop coverist. Despite loving Vocaloid before Kpop, I never felt confident singing Vocaloid. It might have been the fact the first songs I ever knew of were very high pitched. Songs like World Is Mine, Spice, Hot Cocoa, Servant of Evil. Little Snow was definitely not going to be able to do that. Eventually I met some people that were a Youtaite but also loved Kpop, and some animators that are still in the community till this day! Despite the fact we drifted apart, I will always be incredibly grateful to the people that introduced me to this community. The CB’s I am in right now bring me so much joy, and I couldn’t wish for anything better..

What made you wanna participate in chorus battles?

When I first started, I think just the excitement of the people who asked me made me want to join. It seemed very new and exciting. The 2nd time I joined it was a mixture of fun, but I also wanted to erase the memory of how awful my voice was the first time around. Now, I joined because I needed a change. I remembered the joy of working together, the joy of seeing the mix, the nervous but happy feelings when you are waiting for your promo or your submission to be posted. CB’s are just something so different from the usual, and that brings me back here every single time.

What was your first CB?

That’s gotta be LSO from 2016. Although, I do not tend to consider it my first CB. In fact, I am so embarrassed of my vocals there that I didn't even put it in my playlist of stuff I had been in. But, I shouldn’t be like that. In fact, you should go listen to it. Then listen to the CB I was in after that. Finally, please be patient for my upcoming things (though I bet they’re up by the time this gets posted) .

As I am writing this post, I am participating in Sonora DB with the wonderful YuwuBee. (Yumiko) I think we’ve got such a cute concept, and I’m so excited for it! Our first submission should be up soon.

Update on Sonora DB: Unfortunately we didn’t make the deadline. But we’re planning to upload the entry anyway!

GGCB with the group read.me, our promo should be up for sure! (This is the one of the funny story a little down below!) The harmonies we created sound so good, and I am so honoured to be working with this team.

And then my WoTCB group should hopefully be going strong too! This one is definitely the scariest since we are still looking for a team (goodness, it can be so hard to find people), but I believe in us!

Update on WoTCB: We weren’t able to find people to help us out, so either I’ll be joining another group or I’ll be skipping this one. It happens sometimes! I won’t let it discourage me.

How'd you become interested in being a Vocalist?

I always loved singing because of growing up with music. Especially my dad used to sing all the time. Mom played the flute back in the day, and she likes the ukulele right now - even though she totally cannot play! I don’t think I ever really had the “Oh, I want to sing” moment, because it was so natural for me. If we’re talking about the moment I decided I want to sing online, my friend originally asked me. I was very unsure because I had never sung for people before. In the end, I’m very glad I did. I don’t know what my life would’ve been if I said no to it.

Any funny or amusing CB stories?

If you know Level Up by Interlunium, you would know that the song ends with a “pling” sound. Well, for GGCB the person mixing goofed up for a moment, and left out the pling at the end. It was so uncomfortable that we kept memeing about it , and even considered putting it into an “unsatisfying videos” format.

Any advice for people interested in CBs?

No matter who you are or what you’re facing, you can do this. I went into this thinking I was not able to make it this far, but look at me now! Things might be difficult sometimes, and people will say very mean things sometimes. Just make sure to not let their words be louder than the power of your voice. I know that’s easier said than done, but I know that if I could do it when I didn’t believe in myself, you TOTALLY can!

I’ll be here cheering you on!
